Privacy isn't a promise here — it's how the product is built
FairMatch Homes is a private beta, and we've built the technical guardrails first, not as an afterthought. Here's exactly how identity and details are protected as you use the product.
Progressive disclosure by design
Every homeowner starts anonymous to their matches. As a match progresses — from a scored suggestion, to expressed interest, to a mutual match — more detail becomes visible. Full name, exact address, and contact details are held back until both sides have opted in, and some fields (like financial details) are never shown to other homeowners at all.
The mutual-interest gate
Expressing interest is one-directional and private — the other homeowner is only told that someone is interested, never who. Messaging only unlocks once both people have independently expressed interest in each other. This is enforced at the database level, not just in the interface, so there's no way to see a message thread you're not part of.
Approximate map areas
Search areas you draw are stored as the shapes you drew, but any location shown to a match is generalized to city/state (or a fuzzed area on the map) rather than a pinpoint. Nobody can reverse-engineer your street address from what a match sees.
Verification signals
Where available, we show whether a homeowner has verified their email, phone, or home ownership. Verification badges are a signal, not a guarantee — always use your own judgment and your own professionals before making commitments.
Blocking and reporting
You can block or report any homeowner from a match or conversation. Blocking immediately removes each of you from the other's matches and closes messaging. Reports go to our moderation queue with the reason and any messages relevant to the report, and we act on them — up to warning or suspending an account.
What our moderators can and cannot see
Moderators can see account status, report details, and moderation history in order to investigate a report or keep the platform safe. Moderators do not browse private message content outside of an active report, do not see your financial details, and cannot alter your home data on your behalf.
Meeting another homeowner
If a conversation moves toward meeting in person or sharing more detail, keep early conversations on FairMatch messaging, meet in public first if you meet at all, and loop in your own agent, attorney, or lender before exchanging anything binding.
